What is the difference between 2D, 3D, and 4D massage chairs?

The first ever massage chair in the world to be made is called the “Inamasa Bannou Kougeisha”, which is made by the brand we know today as Family Inada. When this was released, it was introduced as an in home product to help families loosen their backs after a hard day of work.

It used a pulley system to move the massaging point up and down, thus making it a 1D massage chair, as it only moves up and down.

However, this marks the start of the massage chair journey, and helps us understand how we get here.

What’s the difference between a 2D and a 3D massage chair?

After some time, many more companies entered the scene and began innovating. Now, we have massage chairs which have different modes and massage methods.

This is where the difference lies.

Very quickly, a 1D massage chair became a 2D, as the massage chairs could begin to move left and right. 3D massage chairs came into existence when the rollers on the massage chair could be changed themselves.

As of current, you may be familiar with the massage chairs which have multiple modes and multiple massage methods. One of the biggest breakthroughs of this was finding different ways to press against your back.

2D massage chairs are known simply for rolling across your back, and it doesn’t feel like much other than that. 3D massage chairs on the other hand can tap into your back, roll around, knead, and do various other massage modes as well.
